Police chief William Kent Lawrence slaps a woman in handcuffs and humiliates her Eatonton Police Department

Special Agent Deborah A. Loving was involved in executing arrest warrants and investigating a use of force incident concerning Tina Childress while she was in custody at the Eatonton Police Department. William Kent Lawrence, who had been with the Eatonton Police Department since 1980 and became its Chief of Police in 1986, was arrested in connection with the incident. Lawrence’s personnel file was reviewed, revealing two minor vehicle accidents but no complaints or reprimands. Special Agent in Charge Mary Chandler interviewed Lawrence regarding allegations that he used excessive force on Childress. During the conversation, Lawrence admitted to slapping Childress multiple times to wake her up while she was intoxicated.
