The Unraveling of Augusta: A Tale of Corruption and Redemption

In the heart of Georgia, where the Savannah River bends, Augusta had long been known for its rich history and the prestigious Masters Tournament. However, beneath its veneer of Southern charm, a web of corruption was slowly unraveling, casting a shadow over its legacy.

The Sheriff’s Scandal

Sheriff Gino Rock, once hailed as a reformer, found himself at the center of the storm. Allegations surfaced of deputies engaging in misconduct, from falsifying reports to more severe charges like brutality. The public’s trust, once given freely, began to wane. The final straw came when an internal audit revealed that the office had been systematically violating open records requests, a move seen as an attempt to cover up deeper corruption.

The Whistleblower

Amanda Timpson, a former employee within the Sheriff’s Office, became the face of resistance. After being demoted and eventually fired for her revelations about fund misuse, she went public. Her testimony before a special committee painted a picture of an office where loyalty to the sheriff trumped the law. Her bravery inspired others, leading to more whistleblowers from various departments, including the Fulton County DA’s office, coming forward with tales of misused funds and ethical lapses.

The Political Fallout

The corruption didn’t stop at law enforcement. Political figures, including those at the highest levels of local government, were implicated. The Mayor’s office was found to have skirted procurement laws, with significant sums spent on lavish events and personal comforts, all under the guise of “professional courtesy.” This revelation led to public outcry, with citizens demanding accountability.

The Community’s Response

The community of Augusta, once complacent, was now galvanized. Protests, vigils, and town hall meetings became common, with residents from all walks of life demanding transparency and justice. Social media platforms, especially X, buzzed with calls for change, with hashtags like #JusticeForAugusta trending, highlighting the collective voice of a community tired of corruption.

The Turnaround

Change came slowly but surely. The state, recognizing the depth of the crisis, initiated reforms. A new sheriff, elected on a platform of transparency and reform, promised to clean house. The mayor, facing mounting pressure, resigned, leading to a special election where integrity became the key issue.

The Legacy

Years later, Augusta would look back at this period as a dark chapter but also as the catalyst for its rebirth. The city, once synonymous with corruption, became a model for how communities could fight back. The Masters Tournament, amidst all this, remained a symbol of continuity, but now it also stood for a community’s resilience and commitment to justice.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Open records and using the files on this page

To request open records – email this address RCSOOpenRecords@augustaga.gov

Some tips:

Use the files here to determine what files you for your own investigation, if you need, body cam, use the arrest report date and case number and use of force reports. You can be anonymous but if they deny records you have no formal way of filing a complaint. All you have to give is your name if you want to be able to file a complaint with the AG here https://law.georgia.gov/key-issues/open-government/open-government-complaint

To determine if they violated the open records act download the PDF here

https://law.georgia.gov/key-issues/open-government/law

Common items I request are

ADMINISTRATIVE AND INVESTIGATIVE NOTICE

ADULT Arrest report, all arrest made by officer in a time frame

Body cam audit trail, very large file, I request one month at a time

Body cam / dash cam – Use officer arrests to find incidents, I always pull the obstruction and disorderly arrests, that is where the civil rights violations are most likely to be!

Garrity form – Shows if a cop has even been a part of an Internal Affairs investigation, you can request this one page, no redactions and should be free, then use the date to request all video and audio interviews

Exit interview – May reveal details – I’ve Never requested this item

Gas card – I never ask for this

Separation list / Resignation letter – Usually a lie

ID and Probate card – I’ve Never requested this item

Incident report – Contains additional dates and times as well as other officers involved and locations

1st page of all use of force reports , 30 day, 6 months etc.. Never request the entire report, just the first page as that is all I have ever needed. Has all information to request the body cam

Suspect mug shot – If cop has been arrested

Employee Administrative Investigation History (EAIH) – I’ve Never requested this item

Departmental police manual – Can be an expensive request but very useful, I have several on SOS

Response to resistance – I’ve Never requested this item

Vehicle activity report GPS – I have one for Savannah PD, not sure how many agencies use this, or have it installed, but request it as it should be cheap or free as there are little to no redactions needed

Employee listing name, salary and rank – Can be used to identify cops or verify agency – I have a lot of these and they are essential when starting an investigation where many officers are involved.

AIC accusation – Internal complaints from cops on cops or inmates on cops

E-911 audio recordings – I request this often

E-911 Radio com – I request this often

E-911 CAD – Computer Aided Dispatch reports – I request this often

Requests can be sent via email and they have 3 days to produce, but they simply acknowledge and most violate this law but if it exceeds 5 days with no response, report them to the AG.

If you use the files here to obtain records please tell me about it, I would love to give you a shout out!

Thanks

Billy

Updated 2023 Payroll listing

2021 payroll listing

Back in 2020 I had a run in with a pig cop in Augusta Georgia, his name was SUDIRAN SOOSAIPILLAI. This cop slurs and stumbles and I believe he has a serious drinking problem, his girl probably knows best.

This cop stopped me an my son for taking pics on a railroad at the Augusta Georgia Riverwalk, Lackluster ran a story about it

After this cop was finished getting his rocks off I decided I wanted to expose him for being a complete douchbag. So I did, I did not know what to expect as that was the first open records request I put in with the #RichmondCountySheriff.

At that time a cop named William McCarty was the pubic information officer and that is who I was dealing with. Today I realize what a trash bag pig he is also. But McCarty turned over the body cam of the incident with me and my son.
