Complaint to AG Jermaine Jones body cam
I am filing a complaint to the Attorney General Chris Carr regarding the suppression of body cam footage from seven Richmond County police officers, Richard Russell, Parker Leathers, Christopher Brown, Aaron Phillips, Leslie Gaiter, John Tarpley, and Lora Hucko, in regards to the killing of Jermaine Jones. Despite multiple open records requests to the District Attorney Jared Williams, the GBI, and the Richmond County Sheriffs Office, the footage has yet to be released. I have received body cam footage from ongoing court cases in the past, making the excuse of an active investigation as a clear intimidation tactic.
Timeline:
These requests are for the following materials All bodycam , in car cam and dash cam of all 7 officers for that entire day. Video and audio depositions from all 7 officers. Richard Russell, Parker Leathers, Christopher Brown, Aaron Phillips, Leslie Gaiter, John Tarpley, and Lora Hucko
12.3.22: 1st open records sent to RCSO request with no response, violation x1
12.9.22: City attorney Tameka Haynes stated an exemption as the case is an active investigation and can’t be made available this was a clear intimidation tactic to use the lawyer trick.
12.19.22 Complaint filed with the attorney generals office the email chain sent to the Attorney generals office through email to Kristen Settlemire
12.29.22: The GBI makes an exemption without consulting the District attorney’s office to validate the case is closed Violation x1
12.30.22: District Attorney Jared Williams of the Augusta Judicial Circuit announced Friday that seven Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputies have been cleared from wrongdoing in the tasing death of Jermaine Jones, Jr
1.1.23: New request sent as the DA announced the case has been closed on the 7 officers killing Jermaine Jones in Dec 22. This is not a statement that can validated through any government website. Jared Williams does not communicate with members of the public.
1.5.23: Internal Affairs Sergeant Celeb Lee emailed back and made bogus state law exemptions. Violation x1
1.28.23: A new and final request was sent
1.30.23: Internal affairs Sergeant William McCarty emailed me and stated my request would be handled by other public records officer
2.2.23 No response from the 1.28 or any other request violation x1
