DOCUMENTED AT A GLANCE

Georgia POST records identify Ariel Latrelle Williams as a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office jailer from September 16, 2019 through December 3, 2020. Her employment status is listed as Terminated. POST records show an investigation opened December 10, 2020 and a final action revoking her basic jailer certification on July 30, 2022.

What the official record establishes

Georgia POST’s documented disciplinary outcome is the revocation of Ariel Latrelle Williams’s basic jailer certification on July 30, 2022, following termination from Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office on December 3, 2020. The 97 recorded jail calls involving Darshay March form a separate evidence collection. Their existence does not establish every factual allegation about the relationship or prove a criminal offense.

Publication note: The original 15 public sample recordings are retained below. The full 97-call archive remains outside this public article. A new site’s membership access must be tested before premium recordings are migrated.

The case

Shields of Shame obtained the underlying call archive associated with inmate Darshay March. The archive contains 97 recordings spanning November and December 2020. Rather than asking readers to accept a characterization of the relationship, this investigation publishes the underlying evidence so listeners can hear the conversations and evaluate them for themselves.

Who was Ariel Williams?

The POST profile lists Williams with an associate degree and a basic jailer certification. Her recorded Lowndes County employment began September 16, 2019. She completed the 80-hour Basic Jail Training Course in February 2020. Her employment ended December 3, 2020, and POST opened its investigation one week later.

In a December 25, 2023 email exchange with Shields of Shame, Williams confirmed that she no longer worked for Lowndes County and, when asked whether she still worked in law enforcement, answered, “No.”

Who is Darshay March?

The call archive identifies the caller as March, Darshay and the facility as Lowndes County, Georgia. The correctional record preserved with this investigation identifies March as a Georgia prisoner serving a voluntary-manslaughter sentence. The incarceration record and call archive are published as source material so readers can distinguish the inmate’s criminal case from the separate question of a jail employee’s professional obligations.

Why staff–inmate relationships matter

Correctional employees occupy positions of authority and have access to information, facilities and people that inmates do not. Personal relationships across that boundary can create security, coercion, favoritism, contraband and integrity concerns. That is why the important question in this case is not gossip about a romance; it is what the records show about professional boundaries, accountability and the consequences that followed.

97 CALLS • APPROXIMATELY 11 HOURS OF AUDIO

$6.99/month membership helps fund records requests, preservation, hosting and publication of source evidence.

Listen: 15 calls from the archive

These recordings are presented as source evidence. Jail recordings can contain poor audio, automated announcements and difficult-to-understand speech. The presence of a recording in this archive does not by itself establish misconduct; context matters.

The members-only evidence page contains all 97 recordings plus the original call-log index. Members can move through the raw evidence instead of relying only on excerpts selected for the story.

The records fight

This investigation also has a public-records component. Shields of Shame previously documented correspondence with Lowndes County concerning records sought about Williams. That correspondence is part of the case history because access to disciplinary and employment records determines whether the public can independently examine how an agency responded.

How Shields of Shame reports this case

We separate allegations from documented findings and publish source material whenever practical. Williams’ termination and later POST revocation are documented. Readers should not assume that every statement made during a recorded call is independently verified merely because it appears in an official call archive.
