Lois Howard was arrested by Canton Police in Cherokee county Georgia for a dispute at a grocery store. Howard is an elderly female, she stated to officers she was shoved into the back of the police car and suffered several broken ribs. Howard was then taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center and left in the lobby. The jail staff refused to accept her due to her injuries and there was a lot of chaos and lies past that point. I am writing to bring to your attention concerning issues of open records violations and potential dishonesty within the Canton Police Department.
On January 21, 2024, Mr. Billy Blume submitted a request for body camera footage regarding a May 21st incident involving Mrs. Lois Howard. Mrs. Howard suffered broken ribs allegedly due to excessive force by officers Erin Leonard and Logan Overbay, who shoved her into a police car. Subsequently, the sergeant on duty during the incident was investigated by the Georgia POST council and subsequently decertified due to a lack of recollection of the events.
Upon Mr. Blume’s request for the body camera footage, Ms. Karen Murphey responded stating that there was no such footage available. However, Mr. Blume provided a case summary wherein Ms. Tiffanie Cromer indicated she had indeed viewed both body camera and dash camera footage. This inconsistency raises concerns about the integrity of the records provided by Ms. Murphey.
Moreover, there have been numerous outstanding requests with the Canton Police Department, many of which have exceeded the mandated 72-hour response time under 50-18-71 (b) (1) (A).

Of particular concern is the treatment of Mrs. Howard, who appears to have been subjected to unwarranted targeting and excessive force. Despite allegedly being arrested for criminal trespass at Publix, Mrs. Howard was found seated on a bench in a shopping center a city block away, making the legality of her arrest questionable. Furthermore, the lack of any corresponding entry in the court docket suggests that she was never formally charged, indicating a possible abuse of power and negligence in the handling of her case.
Given the seriousness of these allegations and the potential violation of Mrs. Howard’s rights, I urge your office to thoroughly investigate this matter. Specifically, I request access to all relevant footage from the Canton Police Department pertaining to the incident involving Mrs. Howard, as well as a review of the department’s policies and procedures regarding the handling of such cases.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I trust that your office will take appropriate action to ensure transparency and accountability within our law enforcement agencies.

I am currently in a back and forth with the Canton Police department over my open records requests attempting to obtain the body cam and dash cam of this incident. They are telling me it does not exist so I had to send proof it does!
My request:

So I emailed them and sent another request:

Then they tried to lie and say the footage does not exist so I sent them this..
